Background

At the end of the 2018 season we gathered a group of coaches and manager together to reflect on the season and discuss opportunities for improvement.

A key topic of discussion was the grading process. As a result of these discussions and further discussions with the newly appointed Mascot Netball Committee we are announcing some key changes to our approach the grading process for 2019.

Firstly, to give every player the opportunity to get their head back into Netball after a 5 month break, Mascot Netball will be running a free skills clinic for all existing Mascot Netball players on the 24 January 2019, this is open to players wishing to play in the 10 years age group and up in 2019. More details will follow in early January.

Secondly, we understand that over the past year players have formed great combinations and friendships and the grading process at times disrupts the opportunity for combinations to be continue and friendships to be maintained. For 2019, for ages 12 to 15 years, we will only be seeking players who wish to be selected in the top 2 graded teams of their age group to participate in the grading process. If a player chooses to opt out of the grading process we will endeavour to maintain them within their 2018 team. All new players will be expected to trial.

Given the 10 and 11 year age groups are transitioning from Net Set Go to proper Netball all girls wising to play in these age groups will be expected to trial so the club can best place all players with comparable skills sets together to support their development in foundation netball skills.

We understand this is a significant change to our grading process and don't expect this solution to be perfect however we believe based on our members and coaches feedback we have the opportunity to trial this approach and provide a more transparent and seamless grading process.
